Trauma Is Not What You Think

Many people believe trauma is caused by the event itself.

But from a mechanical perspective, the brain works differently.

The mind records what was internalized during the experience. Images, sensations, and conclusions formed in the moment. These references become patterns that the brain can activate later when a similar situation appears.

This is why reactions sometimes happen automatically, even when the current situation doesn’t seem dangerous.

In this clip, Robert Gene explains how the brain records experiences and how these recordings become emotional and behavioral programs.

Then continue to Part 3 to understand how these learned patterns can begin to change.
