Should You Tap in the Heat of the Moment?Nicole asked about tapping in the moment when she's stressed. And the answer opened up something much bigger.
There are two completely different skills at work here. Most people only use one. Skill one: tap now. When something happens and you're in it, that is the moment to tap. Dissipate what you're feeling so you can operate intelligently. So you don't make decisions from inside the storm. So you can respond instead of react. That is the number one skill. But skill two is just as important: clean up the training behind the reaction. Because the reason you reacted that way today almost never started today. It started in something you learned and internalized long before you understood what was happening. You're at work, reacting to your colleague. But what you're actually running is a program you learned watching mom and dad. Not knowingly. The brain learned how to have a relationship from what it saw. And now it runs that program everywhere a relationship exists. So the wise thing is to tap now when you're bothered. Then go home, find the training, go back to mom and dad in your mind and tap until they're at peace with each other. Until the original program changes. How you process a bad event determines how it comes back to visit you. This conversation is not finished yet. Watch Part 2 for the rest of Nicole's question.
