Robert Gene Smith has posted a YouTube video:
This is a very intimate part of therapy. You get to be in someone's world and help them maneuver their world into a place where they're happier. A place they have freedom. A guy said to me: "You know more about me than anybody on the planet." I said: "Yeah. I do. But the nice thing about what we talked about — it's no longer true anymore. It's not real anymore. It's just history." That's the piece many people don't understand. You've been going to talk therapies. You've been rehearsing the story. You think you have a great lesson behind it. I'll tell you — you're just painting a conscious pretty picture. What's behind the picture is the true story. The parts you don't want to look at. The parts you don't want to deal with. You want to paint over it so it'll hopefully disappear. It doesn't disappear. A saying I have is: "Memories buried alive never die." They just come back in a different pair of shoes. Usually bigger. Usually uglier. By the way — that goes for good memories too. Good memories buried alive never die either. They show back up in a bigger, prettier way. You don't have to rehearse what happened to you a long time ago. The past doesn't even exist. It can become what it actually is now — just history. 👉 Free Course: https://skillstochange.com/.../
